Capsules Part 5
28 July 2017Singapore – Nespresso
The Nespresso juggernaut rolls on. It’s hard to go anywhere these days without the ubiquitous Nespresso capsule following you. I was recently in Singapore and the gambit of Nespresso machines were proudly on display at my hotel.
The Citiz , small footprint, incredibly short warm up time is found in every room. It’s now standard issue with toiletries and hair dryer. If there were not a Nespresso machine in your room, you would change hotels.
The Gemini has two heads and an auto-frother for those fortunate enough to frequent the lounge. And the lobby café now farewells the traditional machine and replaces it with The Aguila, a steel beast paying lip service to the mid century Italian lever operated espresso machines. It also farewells the barista increasingly a rarefied commodity excommunicated from the hospitality environment.
Nespresso is a remarkably powerful brand inspiring business studies globally. It is also a capsule containing all of 5.5 to 7 grams of coffee. It’s hard to go to a café these days that doesn’t use 20 grams of coffee in a double filter. Go figure!
